The purpose of the Political Potato is to uncover the tone and influential factors of media reporting which are largely unexamined by the majority of the public who I term political couch potatoes who blindly ascribe to the viewpoints espoused by the media without gaining a comprehensive understanding of the politics behind the reporting.
During the course of my blogging I will seek the underlying message behind the news stories that impact our way of thinking and influence our understanding of the world around us, particularly as the stories relate to policy and politics.
Phenisha,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great a theme to center your blog around! The fact that our society seems to be turning more and more into one in which information is mostly consumed (like potatoes) by the general public without question rather than dissected and analyzed (peeling the potato) for any flaws is startling.
Perhaps, it is the lifestyle of the US "culture of convenience" that is a critical part of the problem. With shorter and shorter attention spans and little time to acquire knowledge (even with its abundance), much of the citizenry in the US seems to be comfortably placing itself on the couch and putting its feet up in enjoyment of the "mild despotism" of both government and media which Alexis de Tocqueville so prophetically spoke of.
We mustn't forget the other part of society, though, that tends to look into and be skeptical of everything it is told, however, this blog is certainly and rightly focusing on perhaps the more important of the two groups. I am very interest to see what you write.
Sincerely,
Plamen
